5 Fall Trends You Can Wear at Home

How can anyone think about a dress when a virus is spreading and people are being quarantined around the world, trading all manner of freedoms for loafing around in pajamas instead? “The hardest part is to keep calm in the eye of the storm,” said Marine Serre, a designer who has found boundless inspiration in the darkness of this world... “It’s quite stormy right now, yet we have to see a future in that. It’s about finding ourselves there—understanding it and embracing it.” - Vogue

As this pandemic continues, many of us are at home much more often than we were before. We stay at home, or work at home, and leave only to stock up on the essentials.

If that's true for you, as well, then fall trends may not mean the same thing to you this year. But it might be fun to participate from home.

Not with runway or street style, but with more comfy versions that you can wear at home.

And here are a few reasons it might be worth it to have fun with fall fashion, if that's what you usually do...

(1) It returns a little of the normal to what has been a most un-normal experience.

(2) Having one or two new things to wear may help to alleviate boredom & the sense of one day just blending into the next. Also, you can have fun with mixing up new outfit & color combinations.

(3) What you wear reminds you who you are. When everything changes, it can be easy to feel a little lost or discombobulated.

Wearing things that feel like you may help you feel grounded again.

Have a look at five possibilities and see what you think...

5 Fall Trends for 2020

(1) Floral Prints - these might be good in neck scarves (I have several) or kimonos or tops.

(2) Animal Print - I have seen some lovely cardigans in cheetah and leopard prints.

(3) Checks & Plaid - these might be good for tops, leggings, pants. Or even casual dresses.

(4) Geometric Prints & Patterns - these can be fun in tops, or scarves.

(5) Stripes - you can find stripes in just about everything right now. Even shoes. So whatever you are looking for, you can find a striped one. :)

And, as an aside, for those days when you must go out, here are two fall outerwear trends for fall - houndstooth or tweed blazers and capes.

I would wear Floral Prints and I have been making it a point to get dressed everyday even if I don't go anywhere because I do work from home and now I am teaching my son.As well as getting out each day even if its just to walk around the block to combat me from sinking into a depression and it makes me feel like I have accomplished something. I even bought a couple fun gowns and T Shirts to remind me its okay to pamper myself as I am human and deserve nice things.

Glenda, that is wonderful!! I am so pleased to hear that! So far, I have only been getting dressed for video work. I'm still trying to talk myself into doing it more often. So go, you!

I work from home & this time of year I'm running between the office & the yard to harvest veggies & start the big project of fall cleanup. So glad plaid is in, time to treat myself to some new flannel shirts.

I still love your tangerine top with olive scarf the best! As for me even though I work mostly from home I get dressed everyday. Partly because if the front door is open and someone rings the bell, Lia runs to the door. LOL But I also dress because I'm not letting the virus control me. I love plaid shirts with jeans, that's my style!

Well, that means you are already ready with your plaid this fall. And that's great that you get dressed every day! I admire that.

I love to wear floral prints because I'm a gardener! But, this summer, I am actually employed as a gardener at a state park so I have to wear a state parks t-shirt and jeans. It's just as well. My clothes get impressively filthy every day! And because I rarely go to clothing stores (due to extreme sticker shock), I obtain most of my clothing at garage sales! So the colors and patterns are somewhat random. Because of that randomness, I really haven't figured out my color chart!

My sister LOVES garage sales, but I have never been. I didn't know you could get clothes there. I always imagine antique furniture or the cheaper things no one would ever buy if it wasn't 25 cents, LOL! That's so neat that you love floral prints. I do, too, in neck scarves.

They are often really pretty! I like to mix them with stripes, and they are a perfect print for pattern mixing.

    Hi, I'm Jeanine Byers :)

I'm an author,  Christian image consultant, proud former homeschool boy mom of a college student, Hallmark movie fan and big cuppa tea drinker.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.

    Love, Jeanine
