The New 2020 Fashion Statement: The House Dress
In response to this ongoing stay home extravaganza, the house dress is no longer thought to be a dowdy example of lazy style. It's becoming ever more popular as the way to combine casual style with comfort. A fashion statement you can wear at home. If dressing up has seemed pointless, when there's nowhere to go, creating a mini-capsule of house dresses will give you a way to add back a sense of style. Clothes and mood are intertwined, argues fashion psychologist Dawnn Karen, author of Dress Your Best Life. And so, the house dress is a perfect fit for this moment: a small expression of control during the uncontrollable, a taste of free-flowing freedom in a time rife with restrictions, a sense of structure and style on the days that feel hazy and dull. - NPR House Dresses: The "Comfort Food" of StyleThe house dress even works as a way to feel better, and to combat the stress so many of us are experiencing right now. It may even better solution than your tried-and-true favorite pair of sweat pants. According to fashion psychologist Dawwn Karen, the house dress offers women a triple promise... It might comfort you if you're down, hold you up if you're content and ease choice with a single look that can take you from a nap to a business call, to the backyard, to a nice dinner. Over to you - do you have any house dresses? And if not, does having a house dress appeal to you?
See you tomorrow! Love, Jeanine

Would the caftan be in the same category? I hear that these are still popular after being introduced a year or two together. I don't think I could get away with a longer house dress -- I'm too short and "midi" is always floor length - lol!

Yes! In fact, in at least one article I read, the caftan was mentioned as a sort of forerunner. I know what you mean about being short. I have to go for knee-length. But if I do want full-length, then midi is the way to go. Because full-length means under my feet and tripping on it, for me. :)

Oh, neat! Me, too!! And from what you're saying, you might be a Pure Natural style personality. I just had a blog post about that last week. My style personality is a blend, but Pure Natural is definitely part of it.

OK, relaxation awaits! No, I don't have any house dresses. But I have a gorgeous caftan. Does that count?

Yes, absolutely! Caftans count. And you're right - relaxation is the word of the day.

I have done that, myself, with loungewear. My mom was quite the opposite. She almost never wore a dress, unless she was going somewhere special.
