Announcing: The Return of the House Dress

If there was ever a fitting time to embrace the housedress, this housebound moment is it. - Alexandra Ilyoshov, NYmag.com

The New 2020 Fashion Statement: The House Dress

It's literally a dress you can wear around the house as, like, elevated loungewear. But the dress style is more specific. Usually, they're midi or maxi length, they don't have constricting waistlines, and they're just all-around pretty breezy and comfortable. - Cosmopolitan

In response to this ongoing stay home extravaganza, the house dress is no longer thought to be a dowdy example of lazy style. It's becoming ever more popular as the way to combine casual style with comfort.

A fashion statement you can wear at home.

If dressing up has seemed pointless, when there's nowhere to go, creating a mini-capsule of house dresses will give you a way to add back a sense of style.

Clothes and mood are intertwined, argues fashion psychologist Dawnn Karen, author of Dress Your Best Life. And so, the house dress is a perfect fit for this moment: a small expression of control during the uncontrollable, a taste of free-flowing freedom in a time rife with restrictions, a sense of structure and style on the days that feel hazy and dull. - NPR

House Dresses: The "Comfort Food" of Style

The house dress even works as a way to feel better, and to combat the stress so many of us are experiencing right now. It may even better solution than your tried-and-true favorite pair of sweat pants.

According to fashion psychologist Dawwn Karen, the house dress offers women a triple promise...
It might comfort you if you're down, hold you up if you're content and ease choice with a single look that can take you from a nap to a business call, to the backyard, to a nice dinner.

Over to you - do you have any house dresses? And if not, does having a house dress appeal to you?

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

Would the caftan be in the same category? I hear that these are still popular after being introduced a year or two together. I don't think I could get away with a longer house dress -- I'm too short and "midi" is always floor length - lol!

Yes! In fact, in at least one article I read, the caftan was mentioned as a sort of forerunner. I know what you mean about being short. I have to go for knee-length. But if I do want full-length, then midi is the way to go. Because full-length means under my feet and tripping on it, for me. :)

Oh, neat! Me, too!! And from what you're saying, you might be a Pure Natural style personality. I just had a blog post about that last week. My style personality is a blend, but Pure Natural is definitely part of it.

OK, relaxation awaits! No, I don't have any house dresses. But I have a gorgeous caftan. Does that count?

Yes, absolutely! Caftans count. And you're right - relaxation is the word of the day.

How I remember my mom always wearing a house dress. She never wore slacks (don't think they were even invented back then). I don't have a house dress but I have concert super long night shirts into my "house dress" but would never wear outside the house.

I have done that, myself, with loungewear. My mom was quite the opposite. She almost never wore a dress, unless she was going somewhere special.

    Hi, I'm Jeanine Byers :)

I'm an author,  Christian image consultant, proud former homeschool boy mom of a college student, Hallmark movie fan and big cuppa tea drinker.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.

    Love, Jeanine
