Do this for Your Fall Capsule Wardrobe

There are times when I can predict the future. Today is one of them. Because I know that if you dedicate an afternoon to the activity I am about to describe, you will be happy with the results...

This post is about decluttering your closet. But not in the way you might be used to doing. I have a plan! And if you'll follow these steps, you will be much more likely to enjoy what's in your closet throughout the fall season.

Start with Your Own Plan

By the end of this month, I will have given you everything you need to design your fall capsule wardrobe, including a free, printable worksheet.

(1) First, decide what you most want to wear that you already own.

(2) Is there anything you want to add to it that you don't yet have?

(3) Create a written plan with a color palette and at least some fave outfit ideas, or a daily uniform formula in mind.

Now, the Closet Makeover Begins

First, take out anything that is too worn to continue wearing or that no longer fits. Do whatever you want with them, but don't put them back into the closet.

Next, take out and store the summer clothes that you know you won't wear during the fall.

Closely examine what's left and for each item, ask and answer this question...

Does this fit both my fall capsule wardrobe plan and my current lifestyle?

For example, if your plan includes what you will wear to work once the pandemic is over, gather those clothes and store them together in one container, so you can get to them immediately, once it's time. But don't keep reaching around them this fall, to get to what you'll be wearing at home.

Your Fall Capsule Wardrobe

Now, the only clothes left should be what you are planning to wear this fall. Look at your plan again to see if you have everything you need that you already own and everything listed that you plan to acquire.

Once that is done, you will be finished with your closet makeover and ready for fall.

Is there anything you already know you are looking forward to wearing this fall?

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

ok, I love the planning....I actually plan my days carefully to make sure I get things in, I am a planner!! I started going through things now to go through my "wardrobe" not sure I woudl call it my wardrobe but the clothes I have and put them in boxes and all....love that suggestion...I may just need to pick up a few new things this way....And thankfully the temperatures are cooling down and FALL weather is HERE! I've been waiting for this for months! LOL! ALthough the cooler weather will make the pandemic peak again according to the CDC so far in their research- but who knows...I guess we need to have masks in our wardrobes (or face shields)......

That sounds great, Pamela! You're already ahead of the game. I like planning, too - seems to be the only way to make sure I get things done. Notes, plans, a schedule. But I also like to have days where nothing is planned. :)

Oh, that's great, Amrita! Getting started is sometimes half the battle. Once you see progress, hopefully, it will be easier to keep going. Let me know how it goes!

I've been doing that! Lots of clothes for the donation basket. If I am not wearing them, then out they go! Somewhere out there is someone who will treasure them. And I've put my summer clothes in totes to go into storage. But not quite yet. We got a few extra days of summer weather! So much happiness! The warmer the better! I get to enjoy these lovely warm days before my world becomes too cold for me. But pretty. Snow is pretty. It's just... too cold, and I am a summer girl.

I think I am a fall girl, myself! Love that you are doing this, even if it is a gradual process. That's great!

    Hi, I'm Jeanine Byers :)

I'm an author,  Christian image consultant, proud former homeschool boy mom of a college student, Hallmark movie fan and big cuppa tea drinker.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.

    Love, Jeanine
