Fall Style 2020 Guide and Outfit Planner

This post is the first of two, for today.

The second one will post at noon, and will give you a bird's eye view of the color analysis experience when I work with my clients. You'll hear from a couple of them, too, in that post.

But this post has a different topic. In a poll of 6000 women, when asked what their biggest challenge was, the majority said, putting outfits together. And during the recent five-day fall style challenge, they continued to say it.

They wanted an easier way to create outfits that would make them look well put together, And at the end of the challenge, getting dressed became simple and easy.

Six new capsule wardrobe guides were released, one for each of the color types. And since I have been working with one of them, I decided to share what my experience has been like, so far, in using it to create my own fall capsule wardrobe and plan outfits with what I have in my capsule.

The Warm Capsule Wardrobe Guide for Fall

I'm thrilled to bring you the all-new Closet Outfit Planner designed for your Color Code. You, literally, don't have to stress about what to wear ever again. It is outfit planning made simple, just for you! I have hand selected the 27 pieces that are perfect for your wardrobe this season, in the trend colors that flatter you. The Closet Outfit Planner includes everything you need to know exactly how to dress like the stylish, beautiful woman you are. - Shari Braendel

The color palette for the Warm fall style guide is navy, olive, pumpkin and ivory/oatmeal.

What I love about that color palette is that I have every one of those colors in my wardrobe, already except for navy. So I knew that this style guide would be perfect for me, and I really loved every minute of working on my fall style plan.

Fall Style 2020 Capsule Wardrobe Guide: Closet Inventory

Picture

Each capsule guide comes with 27 clothing items selected for your color type. So the goal of creating your capsule wardrobe is to have about 27 hangers, as Shari Braendel likes to say.

And after an introduction, you see the recommended pieces for your wardrobe.

I decided not to worry about navy, for now, although this season's navy is beautiful, and I have been thinking that if I ever add another neutral color, it would be navy.

But I did look at the pieces in the other colors, and to be honest, there were some I didn't like.

For example, there were graphic tees with faith messages on them. I think that's a lovely idea if you like that sort of thing, but I don't like graphic tees.

And I am picky about dresses. I hardly ever buy them, but when I do, it's usually for a specific reason - right now, I have two striped dresses, and the stripes were my only reason for choosing them, besides the summer heat.

So, when you buy a guide like this one, you may find yourself choosing other pieces than the ones suggested. If it says, olive jacket, and shows a moto jacket, but you'd prefer a cardigan, that's totally fine.

In fact, the hope is that you already have your own versions of some of the items in your closet.

And when I did my closet inventory, I found out that I had 20 items already.

Not the exact same items - and I have far more dusters and far fewer tops and bottoms - but I am happy with what I have for now, and am still inspired by some of the outfit ideas.

By the way, I have added a few more pieces since I did the closet inventory, and I now have 23 pieces, which I think is more than enough.

Fall Style 2020 Capsule Wardrobe Guide: Outfit Ideas

At first, I felt discouraged when I saw how many outfits had a combination of navy and another color, when I don't plan to add any navy. But then I looked at the actual types of pieces and styles and realized I could still be inspired by those.

And then I remembered the chart with the 150 outfit combinations! I got some great ideas from the chart.

(1) A monochromatic outfit but with shades of olive - that was a merger of two outfit ideas with the clothes I have in y closet.

(2) Several outfit ideas using my pumpkin duster, leggings and a top. I don't wear jeans, but all of the jeans outfit ideas would work for me if I substituted leggings.

(3) Two different duster + dress outfits that I can't wait to try! They were my favorites, and they were both inspired by one of the many outfit ideas in the guide.

(4) There were other suggestions where I saw one kind of topper, or a pair of pants, and wouldn't use those exact ones, but immediately saw how one that I have could fit right into the picture.

(5) I also felt validated by some of the outfit ideas I am already doing. But I was really pleased to think of so many new ones.

Fall Style 2020 Capsule Wardrobe Guide: Wish List

I really think I feel complete with my fall capsule wardrobe.

But if I were going to add a few more pieces, I think I would look for a pair of pumpkin leggings or joggers.

And while I was looking around online, I found a striped navy duster. That would probably be fun!

Plus, I found a sale in one of my favorite stores that would make it easy to add a pair of navy leggings now, and that duster down the road.

Navy would go so well with all the olive green I have, don't you think?

But I am excited to have so many great outfit ideas already, so I may wait and just focus on what I have, for now.

I have to say that that was the best part of my experience with the capsule guide - I was able to use so many things that I already have!

Over to you! What have your experiences been like with creating capsule wardrobes?

And what would it be like to know that the clothes you had hanging in your closet would not let you down? That you could have total confidence in the outfits you put together?

If you want to experience that, I can make it happen.

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

That's amazing how you were able to put so many outfits together from your closet! Sounds like you have new outfits without even having to purchase anything new. I'll have to go through my closet soon!

Thanks, Martha! That's true. I was able to put quite a few together with what I had already. But I also did do a wee bit of shopping! ;)

Here, I thought everyone was just donning the same thing over and over again during the pandemic.

I think you're absolutely right! And it's so easy to do, especially when you're not going out much, and you're aware that no one, or only a few people will see you. But not only does that get boring, but as the seasons change, the temperatures do, too. So even as the pandemic rages on, we will all have to give some thought to what we will shift into as it gets colder. And some of us, who love style, will want to have fun giving thought to it. :)

I have to admit something here... I have never liked navy blue. There. I said it. I admitted that I didn't like a color when I am an artist, and I am supposed to love color. But still. Navy blue. It looks dull to me. I don't feel the joy in navy blue. And I don't think that I glow in it, either. but there are people who definitely do. So maybe I should change my attitude about navy blue. Hmmm. I shall try... although I am hoping that it's not in my color pallette. :D

Honestly I have my work clothes of all sizes I need to get rid of as there so old. Then Graphic T's I never thought I would wear and all black pants and shorts no colors what so ever. Looks like I really need to redo my closet while I have the money because once its done I wouldn't have to do it again.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.
