Finding Your Best Neutrals

Picture

When choosing a color palette for your fall capsule wardrobe, resist the temptation to buy every beautiful color you can wear in your color palette.

Choose 1 or 2 neutrals and 2-3 accent colors.

But how do you choose your neutrals? Experts suggest choosing your neutral colors based on the colors in your hair.

Neutrals serve as an anchor for bolder shades. These typically make up the majority of your closet and can be worn by anyone regardless of their personal coloring.... - AudreyALaMode.com

Typical Neutral Colors

Typical neutral colors include black, white, brown, camel, grey, tan, khaki, ivory, cream, and navy. Altered versions like tints (white added) or shades (black added) of these colors also count as neutrals, as do prints. For example, tweed or checks in neutral colors.

An easy way to build a wardrobe is to select one to three fashion neutral colors that you like and that look good on you, and begin assembling some fashion basics in these neutral colors. - Fashion Neutrals

Choosing Your Best Neutrals

Obviously, some neutrals are not going to be readily apparent when you look at your hair.

So another way to choose your neutrals is to look at the ones in your color palette.

When you do so, hold the swatches up near your face and choose the ones that seem to connect or harmonize with your coloring. Though it may not be obvious, that is what I was doing, years ago,  in that picture above.

I love to use warm browns, dark browns, camels, and creams as my neutrals. In fact, there was a time when neutrals made up the largest percentage of my wardrobe.

See what I mean?

Do you have a favorite neutral color?

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

P.S. Each capsule wardrobe color palette in the new closet outfit guides has two neutrals and two accent colors. And if you're not sure which neutrals to emphasize during the fall and winter seasons, you will find out when I do your color analysis - on sale this week at $50 off the regular price.

My hair color is an auburn brown so, I guess a more caramel brown would be best for me. I do like a tan vest though. I miss my ole vests I used to have I think they actually looked good one me....although I admit I am not and far from the fashionable individual! I love a good vest, with brown, caramel and tan mixed in the colors.

Those colors would make a beautiful combination of neutrals. But if you have auburn hair, you also cold use a reddish brown as a neutral.

Black is my all time favorite neutral colour. I have black hair too!

My hair color is (or maybe was) somewhere between a mousy brown and a dark brown (probably closer to dark brown than mousy brown). For neutrals, I like tan, beige, dark beige, and cream. These feel like the happiest of the neutrals for me.

Alice, those are great neutral colors. Cream and ivory are two of my favorites! By the way, women who refer to their hair as "mousy" are often Softs. Just saying.

Vidya, I know what you mean about the color grey. Thankfully, most color palettes have some version of it. But black and cream, or ivory, would be great colors to wear this fall.

I can't wait to start to use these tips and to update my wardrobe as I know I will look more professional and hopefully even younger and not so pale.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.
