Shelter in Place with a Loungewear Capsule Wardrobe

Why Create a Loungewear Capsule Wardrobe

I have known many people for whom home is just a place to sleep. Or refuel before the next big adventure.

Even for homebodies (like me), or stay-at-home or work-at-home moms, most of your wardrobe may provide lots of options for what you do away from home, and not so many for time spent at home.

But right now, there are many more of us at home than usual, and for much more of the time. So, what to wear?

I suggest creating a loungewear capsule wardrobe that is comfortable, cozy and soothing, but also one you will enjoy choosing each day. If getting dressed is fun, gives you confidence, reminds you of who you are, and makes you feel good, then your clothes may actually lessen some of the stress you're experiencing.

And as our wait, at home, continues, it may create enough variety to eliminate the boredom of life in pjs, or of wearing the same things over and over again.

The Loungewear Capsule Wardrobe: 10 Pieces, 30 Outfits

Avoid “stocking up” and instead, invest in just one or two cozy, comfortable pieces you absolutely love. - Caroline Joy, un-fancy.com

Here are the ten pieces you can use to create a fun, but comfortable & stylish loungewear capsule wardrobe.

3 bottoms: 2 leggings,  1 skirt

3 tops: 1 camisoles, 1 SS top, 1 LS top
2 slip or tank dresses: one each
2 long cardigans

But if ten pieces is too many, for now, gather together just five, from what you already own. Five pieces that will be fun to wear, or comforting, or easy.

If you are hanging out at home more than usual, what have you most enjoyed wearing, so far? Let me know in a comment.

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

Oh wow, I really love this! It all looks so comfortable and soft and nice to wear. Especially now that I am spending much more time at home than I ever thought possible! And you look absolutely adorable in your loungewear. Like I want to sit down with you and have a nice chat with you sort of comfortable. I will try to put my loungewear together after I move to my new apartment. It will be such a fun activity.

Thanks, Alice!! That would be fun, and we could have tea! Not sure how soon you will be moving, but if it's going to be a while, try to put together at least a couple of cozy outfits now. Maybe take a moment to think "cozy & comfortable," and then, see if certain items in your closet come to mind.

I love that you started with leisure wear.I will be keeping this in mind about mixing and matching

Oh, good, Amrita! I think mixing and matching is really the key to creating the variety of outfits that will keep you from beig bored.

I get it now. This is what folks like (back when suits and ties were the uniforms of the day) when I bought three suits, ten ties, and five shirts.

I think so, Roy, if they were all designed to sort of mix and match. I know that lots of men do this already - a few good suits and several colors they like for shirts and ties. But you can do it for every part of your lifestyle, even the more casual ones, and it is likely to make choosing what to wear a lot easier.

I love the specificity. I am finding a lot of comfort in the texture of my "lounge capsule" - I am wearing my son's hoodie today - we have had more cold weather for longer than usual here in Bakersfield. It's weird! Socks and comfy shoes - give me soft happy socks and I am pretty much happy all over. :-)

Thanks! We had a cooler day here in Georgia, but I ended up still not needing an extra layer. Spring has sprung. But I know what you mean about fuzzy socks - I wear them all year round.

I don't own many casual wear clothes, and am already wanting to get some comfy clothes. I don't own enough pjs, either. I mean, I'm not dressing up to work at home.

Well, I totally understand about not dressing up, because, to be honest, I don't even dress up when I should. But I do like to enjoy what I am wearing, and since I work from home, too, like you, I want to have more comfy clothes just for home.

This is my style Jeanine! Not that I lounge all day but when I'm home working I like to be comfortable. Your outfit looks great!

Great Idea! I have been wearing some workout clothes when I do get "dressed" but I love the lounge wear concept :)

Oh, cool! Well, building a loungewear capsule would save the workout wear just for working out. But right now, you are probably working out at home, so it may not matter. Something to keep in mind though. I used to have walking clothes set aside in my closet so they were always ready and I never had an excuse not to go, LOL.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.
