My Spring Capsule Wardrobe: 7 Things on My Wish List

My goal in creating a spring capsule wardrobe is to choose clothes I love, that I know will be fun to wear, that express the core & the best of who I am.

Spring Capsule Wardrobe: Why I Have a Wish List

There are two challenges I have when I shop for warm weather clothes...

(1) As a plus-sized fashionista, I love fall & winter clothes because they are made with thicker fabric, often have more structure, and are ideal for layering. They make it easier to follow the gamine style recommendations that call for close-fitting pieces.

Conversely, warm weather clothes are often made with lighter fabric and less structure. And in the warmest weather, I find that layering just doesn't work.

(2) I often find that most of the clothes I can find in the stores and online are in cooler colors that don't flatter me. As an autumn, I want olive and burnt orange, not fuschia and bright yellow.

So I often shop for warm weather clothes in the fall. But they often miss the fresh, spring features I want. One example of that is floral print, which is difficult to find in the colors I love, that flatter me best.

But I occasionally find the odd treasure, so it's good to have a wish list in mind.

My Spring Capsule Wardrobe Wish List in Detail

This wish list is a 7-piece mini capsule that I would like to add to what I already have - several pairs of leggings, a couple of pairs of pants, a long-sleeved crocheted duster, two 3/4 sleeved striped tops & two short-sleeved tops.

I want the wish list pieces to blend seamlessly with the others, so they need to be in similar colors & my spring capsule wardrobe color palette is ivory, brown, terracotta and olive.

Here's the list of possibilities...

(1) SS crocheted duster - I have a long-sleeved one, and I actually thought about cutting the sleeves off or making them shorter. But I would like to keep this one for winter. For the wish list one, I am open to any capsule color, but haven't yet found one.

(2) SS top with peter pan collars - though I sometimes find collars uncomfy and I tend to avoid them, the peter pan collar I am envisioning would be more like a top layer on my shirt, and less likely to be a bother to my neck. I think. I haven't seen a plus-size one yet in my capsule colors, but I am keeping an eye out.

(3) SS top with stripes - I am in love with my two striped tops. One is olive green and ivory, and the other is terracotta and ivory. If I could have exact duplicates, but with shorter sleeves, that would be wonderful.

I wish I had though of buying copies and having them altered when the ones I have were available, but I didn't think of it. Hopefully, I will happen upon at least one, in a capsule color.

(4) SS whimsical floral top - I want it to be whimsical, as opposed to being dainty, or ultra-feminine. I don't mind the ones that only have one large flower, that I have seen this season, but I'd prefer a print.

(5) Light colored leggings - I have a pair in a sassy print that are light colored, but would like to find a solid pair.

(6) Floral neck scarves - updated: since I wrote this post in preparation for this challenge, I bought 2 floral neck scarves. So we ca check this item off the list!

I keep imagining the perfect blend of colors, like terracotta, olive green and ivory. Or dark brown and olive green, or olive and ivory. I'd love to do pattern mixing with a floral scarf and wear it with a striped top.

(7) Beige or oatmeal or ivory crocheted flats - I actually saw a picture of a pair of beige ones I liked and would love to get a pair exactly like them. I have several pairs of pants that are close to that color.

What are your challenges when it comes to creating a spring capsule wardrobe?

What's on your wish list that you most hope to find?

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

I like what you have on your wish list Jeanine! I'd say go daring and for the light colored leggings go with either a light olive or even a turquoise! Your burnt orange top would still go with either shade. Go for it, be daring! I've loved following your capsule wardrobe, hugs !!

    Hi, I'm Jeanine Byers :)

I'm an author,  Christian image consultant, proud former homeschool boy mom of a college student, Hallmark movie fan and big cuppa tea drinker.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.

    Love, Jeanine
