Spring 10x10: Week Four and My Favorite Outfits

Well, I made it to the finish line! Four weeks of the 10x10 challenge, and a four-week trial of my spring capsule wardrobe. Here's how it went...

Navigating the Challenge During Our #StayHome Adventure

When I go to the store, these days, I often try to go early in the morning. There are fewer people to avoid, and a greater selection of the things I need to buy.

But it's often cooler during the early part of the morning, so once again, I needed my outerwear cardigan. It actually was still a bit chilly even with it on.

Outfit Formula by Reader Request: Martha was Right...

Picture

Last week's spring 10x10 challenge post included a picture with this orange striped top in it, and others with the rust cardigan.

One of my favorite bloggers: Martha, from The Martha Review, commented that she thought the two would look good together. I told her I would give it a try & she was right. Thanks, Martha!

I hadn't really thought to try them together before, but was happy with the way it turned out.

I think it's my favorite challenge outfit now!!

Have you ever been surprised by an outfit formula that worked for you?

Results: The 10x10 Challenge & My Spring Capsule Wardrobe

(1) Though I hadn't intend thought I'd end up wearing it, at first, I loved the variety my rust cardigan added, and would like to make it an intentional part of my spring capsule wardrobe, going forward.

(2) I included an olive green scarf as an accessory, which I love! But I wore it so many times, I began to get tired of it.

So, I bought one more, in a brown floral print, and will be happy to have that one, too, going forward.

(3) I have two pairs of earrings I used with this capsule. I am happy with them, but might like one or two more.

I'm interested in trying both a muted gold pair and a silver one, so I ordered a set of hoops I'll be trying soon.

(4) I think I need slightly shorter tops. I tried a few times to solve that problem by tucking them in, but may need to give in and actually hem them. :)

(5) The big question is whether or not I was able to create ten outfit formulas that work well for me.

I don't think I have ten perfect ones, unfortunately, but I think with all the possible variations, I can get to ten that I really like.

And I did discover a few that I love. So I consider this challenge a success.

My Ten Best Outfits

Picture

Speaking of possible outfit formulas, I want to mention the outfit I wore on Easter.

While it wasn't a true outfit, because I would not have worn it outside the house, it was an experiment, of sorts, to see if I can wear that look. And I think I can!

It's a kind of empire dress look or a cropped top + long skirt idea, and I think, with straight lines, and without the slim silhouette I usually wear now, I could choose that outfit formula.

So that's yet another reason I'm glad I got dressed for church that day, even though I wouldn't be leaving the house.

Now, I have one more thing to share with you. I gave you my best ten, but I have to confess that there are at least a few of those outfits I won't wear again without changing them in some way.

But here are my absolute faves - the ones I know I will wear again...

My 3 Favorite Outfit Formulas

Did you try the 10x10 challenge with me, or work on creating your spring capsule wardrobe? If so, tell me how it went.

What do you think of the outfit formulas you have come up with, so far?

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

Ha! I laugh as I celebrate if I get out of my PJs these days. I've been out of the house three times in the past 5 weeks. Not the most inspired to get dress under those conditions. And yet, there'll be a time for me to celebrate my clothes again. Have fun!

It is definitely reason to celebrate, in these times we're in right now! I have been out more often than you have, but I also have been attending the weekday Zoom devotionals my church has been doing for us.

I think that rust will serve you well all year, in every season. Are you familiar with Carol Tuttle's Dressing Your Truth system? I think you'd enjoy it.

Thanks!! I love rust! And the color will absolutely work all year round. It is part of my palette as an autumn. And yes, I used to be an affiliate for DYT back when they had an affiliate program.

Wow this has been exciting to follow your capsule! It's amazing how so many outfits can be put together differently with the same garments! I love the stripes top with the rust cardigan and the scarf just added WOW! Thanks for the shout-out and trying that combo. You look great in all the combos.

    Hi, I'm Jeanine Byers :)

I'm an author,  Christian image consultant, proud former homeschool boy mom of a college student, Hallmark movie fan and big cuppa tea drinker.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.

    Love, Jeanine
