Staying Home: How to Upgrade Your Loungewear

In the early days of Christianity, newly baptized Christians wore white linen robes at Easter to symbolize rebirth and new life. But it was not until 300 A.D. that wearing new clothes became an official decree, as the Roman emperor Constantine declared that his court must wear the finest new clothing on Easter. - Lily McCallister

Happy Easter!

Getting dressed up for Easter goes back to ancient times. But many of us will be celebrating at home today, instead.

My church is offering a recorded service, and though in the past few weeks, I have mostly watched in sleepwear, I think I may get dressed for this one.

“It's a whole new beginning and we celebrate that newness by going out in new clothes.” - The Oklahoman

I don't know about you, but I could really use the promise of a new beginning right about now. If you do, too, consider celebrating at home by wearing something nicer than you would normally wear. An upgrade.

Even if what you normally wear is loungewear...

Here are three outfit formula ideas for upgrading your loungewear for Easter or any other time you need it.

In the video, Alyssa suggests making use of the loungewear you already have and she uses sweatpants, leggings and a jumpsuit or dress as examples.

But what if, for instance, you don't have a blazer (as I don't?) Or a white blouse (as I don't) or a furry vest & belt (you guessed it - I don't)?

I am sure that you have something that is upgrade-worthy that you can use and still manage to be comfy at home.

I suggest: earrings, scarves, a cardigan, flats or anything that makes an outfit seem that much nicer.

I know it may seem like a small thing.

What difference does it make to wear something special on this day dedicated to celebrating Easter? Just being part of the celebration is all that matters, right?

But to me, upgrading my comfy outfit feels like an expression of hope, and an affirmation of my faith. And you can do this upgrade whenever you need a mood lift, a positive moment in an otherwise difficult day, or a physical demonstration of strength or hope.

What will you be wearing?

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

P.S. Here's What I Decided to Wear...

I chose this outfit, so I could be comfy, but still dress up a little. The base is loungewear - a house dress I wear all the time at home, but never wear outside of the house.

It's one step away from sleepwear, really.

Then, I added one of the tops from my spring capsule wardrobe, along with my olive floral scarf & animal print earrings. I stepped out of my slippers & into my olive green flats, and voila, I felt ready to celebrate! :)

What have you decided to wear?

Beautiful tie into the Easter holiday and our savior. And yes, he wore only white linen robes. Nothing fancy, it was comfortable and practical. And yes, the Romans who did cruxify him were the ones to introduce more dressy apparel- coincidence? hhmmmm......Am I celebrating more those who crucified my savior now if I do get dressed up or am I celebrating the resurrection of our savior? You made me think here....I will end up going out and enjoying hopefully the freshly opening (planted by my father RIP) with my dogs and saying Pawmaste/ Namsaste as we "bow to the divine all around us" and if I from now on find myself in the attempt to go against living in a nasty or outspoken way, or judgy way....I will yell Pawmaste! and do a little bow!Sorry, your post got me thinking philosophical today! THANK YOU! you may have jsut changed my attitude on life!

Right now, I am wearing whatever is warmest. Although the weather is starting to warm up, it still feels awfully cold to me here in Western New York. So I am still layering but am looking forward to the time when i can start shedding a few of those layers.

Staying warm is very important, so I'm glad you're doing that right now. Upgrades might still be possible, but are, of course, optional.

I definitely need a lounge wear makeover. I start with sets and then end up wearing multi patterns and colors and look like a hot mess lol Thanks for the tips!

Even though we didn't go anywhere today, I wanted to dress for Easter Mass at the Vatican (on TV) I wore mint green capris, a light pink camo top and a beautiful silver necklace with a topaz stone. Do my colors sound like Easter? Hope you had a blessed Easter Jeanine.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.

    Love, Jeanine
