Style Personality Series: Finding Your Personal Style

Last week, I gave you a master list of style personality quizzes. Did you find one that really feels like you? If you still aren't sure of your style personality, you'll love our style focus this week.

Why a Week-Long Focus on Finding Your Personal Style?

Because leaving it out of the equation is like trying to use a three-legged table that only has two of it's legs. Even if you figure out a way to get it to work, you won't be happy with it.

Just as I mentioned when I told you about the style trifecta, you need all three parts.

I learned this the hard way.

When I dress only for the primary part of my style personality, I look frumpy, sloppy and overwhelmed by fabric. But when I dress only for my style type - or, in other words, what my body is doing - I miss some of the things I liked most to wear.

And I know that, by now, I don't need to remind you about how awful it was to wear the wrong colors!

In order to be happiest with the style you present, you need the entire style trifecta.

So we will spend the week taking a closer look at personal style. Let's hope at the end, you'll be clear on what yours is.

Style Personality and Personal Style: One Outfit, Four Ways

Picture
This week, I'm going to introduce you to Shari Braendel's style personality system. She's my mentor, teacher, trainer, from Fashion Meets Faith.

There are four personality types. As we take a look at each of the four style personalities, I will show you how you can start with one basic outfit and transform it.

And you will see how you can take the style you are naturally drawn to and create an outfit formula that elevates it.

Style Homework

(1) Have a look through your closet and take note of any themes or items you have bought over and over again. Jeans jackets, sweater sets, turtlenecks, long skirts, bright colors, lace, knitwear - notice whatever you tend to buy, and keep it in mind as we look at each style personality this week.

(2) Create a mood board that includes what you are drawn to and know you would wear if you owned it. That will make it easier to discover your innate sense of style.

Can you think of anything off the top of your head, that you buy again and again?

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

This is an interesting exercise. I think I did something like this when I was 12 in modeling school! Those findings probably don't apply anymore. Looking forward to the next step

Thanks!! Oh my gosh! I was just telling my son today about how my mother put me in modeling school when I was 10, and we did this sort of production, or show, where we walked down the runway and when we got back to the stage we were singing and dancing. LOL! Those were the days. Only I don't really remember talking much about style back then.

What does it say about me that my wardrobe is leggings and sleeveless tunics? I have no style.

Well, one thing it says is that you live somewhere warm! ;) Well, I would say it could be a comfy style, but not no style at all. Stay tuned to see if your tunics and leggings turn up in one of the style personalities.

Jeanine, I have found that very narrow pants (not leggings) are very flattering to my figure, together with hip-length tops. I love an easy-care wardrobe, which is possible with today's textiles. Most of my clothes fold up in a drawer. Looking forward to hearing more on style personality!

I have a full closet but always seem to wear the same thing, my jeans and one of my tops. I haven't been shopping for new things in years.

An interesting topic, and I think every woman discuss it. Styling is not just choosing right colours or right design, It's something which enhance your personality. Everyone has to do a trial method to get the right style.

    Hi, I'm Jeanine Byers :)

I'm an author,  Christian image consultant, proud former homeschool boy mom of a college student, Hallmark movie fan and big cuppa tea drinker.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.

    Love, Jeanine
