Style Personality Series: Classic Modern

Picture

The Classic Modern

The Classic Modern is a very common style personality, and I believe it inspires what we currently think of as minimalist style, but dresses it up a little. She has lots of basics in her wardrobe, and prefers a look that is understated, but she always looks elegant and sophisticated.

When she goes out with friends and family, she may look the most dressed up of everyone she's with and she will get compliments because she looks so well put-together.

My mother was this style personality and loved classic style.
And I remember how thrilled I was when I found an inexpensive brown tweed jacket to give to her one year for Christmas. It was similar to the one in the picture above.

Are you a Classic Modern?

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

My mother used to be like this, when she was teaching at the university. I really admired it but never achieved it. The level of discomfort was too high for me. I felt as if my clothes were wearing me, rather than me wearing my clothes.

Well, that's interesting, Alice, because my mother was a university prof, too! Maybe that's why she dressed that way, and it just stuck. I used to dress that way, too, probably due to her influence, but it's not really me, either. I'll be interested to hear which style personality feels like a fit for you.

So far, I seem to be a mix between the pure natural and creative original. I think that my personality leans more toward creative original because I like to match my clothes in ways that my older sister used to describe as "artsy fartsy." But I paint and I'm a gardener, and I tend to get really messy so I need to "dress down" just because chaotic mess and fun, creative fashion statement don't mix. Also, the shoes. Very much the more natural style, as the shoes have to carry me for miles. They have to support my feet more than they have to look good! If they could do both, that would be the best of all possible worlds!

And we have so much in common! What did your mom teach? My mom taught sociology & social work.

Ooh, I loved my sociology classes! In fact, I minored in Interpersonal Communication (or something like that - I keep forgetting the name) because I kept taking soc classes as electives. My mom taught mathematics. Oh boy, was that not my forte! You are right, we have a lot in common. Including (hint hint) style personalities. Tomorrow, I'll be asking if anyone figured out what the other part of my style personality is and this is a big clue! And I know what you mean about shoes. I only ever wear flats, though they are in fun colors like orange and olive green and red and burgundy. :)

I am/was classic modern until I stopped working outside the home. Now, I run my business from home and I am classic 'comfortable.'

Neat! Sounds like the Classic look is one you are drawn to if it has come home with you. And I think that is really the test for Classic, because a lot of women dress that way for work. But if you love it after work and on weekends, than it's probably a style personality.

I was this when I was into insurance! But I still love the pure natural.

    Hi, I'm Jeanine Byers :)

I'm an author,  Christian image consultant, proud former homeschool boy mom of a college student, Hallmark movie fan and big cuppa tea drinker.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.

    Love, Jeanine
