There is one reason & one reason only why color analysis goes wrong! And I will tell you what it is in this post… My Color Analysis StoryHave you ever been color analyzed before? I have worked with & met so many people who have been analyzed multiple times and been told they were a different type each time. It even happened to me when I was younger. I was 17 or 18 years old, and it was summer, in the early 80s (yes, I am that old!) Color Me Beautiful was just beginning to show up in department stores and they were offering 4-season color analysis classes wherein people could discover their season & be given a palette filled with the colors they should wear. During that time, as I mentioned last week, it was believed that women of color were going to be autumns or winters, but by far, the majority would be winters. So, I spent 2 decades believing I was a winter, when actually I am an autumn. I’ll never get those years back, and it really bothers me to think of people spending money - like I did & so many others have - on the wrong colors because someone told them they should. But why and how does that happen? What makes color analysis go wrong? Why Color Analysis Goes WrongHere is the reason - when color analysis goes wrong, it is because what is being analyzed is not the truth. So the color analyst sees something that is not really there. When it happens in person, maybe what’s not the truth is the lighting, or what the person being analyzed is wearing. Or the analyst’s expectation. Virtual analysis goes wrong because the pictures used aren’t real. Let me give you an example. I believe that many celebrity pictures are staged. And that means that special lighting may have been used, they may have been wearing makeup to match their outfits or look, and the final pictures may have been altered to improve them in some way. So, who can say that any celebrity picture represents exactly what that person looks like? Even with candids, they may have colored their hair, or might be wearing colored lenses. You really can never know. So when I say that a celebrity belongs to a certain color home or family, I mean, based on what I have seen in their photos. And the same thing is true with my clients. Color analysis is a collaboration, at its best, and I need to know that the pictures I have been given represent what my clients actually see in the mirror in order to accurately assess their type. But once you have the truth in front of you, you can’t go wrong. In fact, even when I have difficulty deciding between one color home and another, what that means is that there are colors in both types that suit my client. Personalized PalettesAnd that’s part of the reason why I don’t just offer color analysis, but personalized palettes. So I will tell you which color home you belong to, but also give you a personalized palette that will include the take-your-breath-away colors that will make you glow & come to life. I’d love to know your experiences with color analysis. Hit “reply” and let me know if you have ever been analyzed wrong. See you next time! Love, Jeanine ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I've never truly been color analyzed before but as someone who studied photography and using light to manipulate an image and all I see your point with celebrities and all.....The best photos to go by are unaltered, outdoor photos using daylight, and honestly not taken during the Golden Hour- (shortly before sunrise or after sunset- with the sun is higher in the sky!) And not directly at noon either. Lighting is a tough thing to work with.....there are so many variables and all.....If you want to color analyze me let me know......

Pamela, I agree with everything you have said about making sure you use the best lighting! And you're right, it is tough, with all those variables. I would love to color analyze you! And I'll even give you a UBCer discount, :)

Well, it's interesting that you say that is what you do, because if color analysis is done well, it will definitely make you look pretty - the prettiest, in fact. But I think it can be both fun and serious. I have a lot of fun getting dressed in color combinations that look good on me!

This is such an interesting post! I vaguely remember hearing about colour analysis, but not to this extend. It's really quite intense by the sounds of it, since it can be a little hit and miss if not delivered by a knowledgeable person.

Well, I agree that it can be problematic with someone who doesn't know what she's doing. But the experience of color analysis doesn't have to be intense, though it can be empowering!

LOL, are you forming an alliance? ;) But I agree with you both, that the colors you wear should make you happy. And I have never felt happier than I did once I started wearing the colors that are best for me.

I found your points really interesting, Jeanine. I've never had my colors done, (and I dress kinda boring anyway), but your point about celebrities and the lighting needed for photgraphing them well as being deceiving, really hits home. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, it's so hard to know what's real and what's not. You're welcome! :)

I think that I had a color analysis done, but it was a long time ago. I think that it recommended warm earth tones, but, ugh, don't really remember, and I like bright and dramatic colors. I may have forgotten in my eagerness to make me look like a happy prima donna. A personalized palette. That sounds wonderful. I would love that.

I love warm, earth colors! But you know, every palette has it's own brighter or more dramatic colors. I bet if you had a palette to look at, from those days when you had your color analysis done, you could skate around the brighter edges of it.
