Brightening Your Winter Capsule Wardrobe Color PaletteHappy Groundhog Day! Whether or not the groundhog saw his shadow, and even if there's going to be six more long, cold weeks of winter, let's look at how to brighten your winter experience. How to Add Color to Your Winter Capsule WardrobeAre you longing for brighter colors as we wait for spring to finally come back? Usually, by the time all the bright colors of Christmas have faded and Auld Lang Syne has been sung, I am always ready for some peace and quiet, even in my wardrobe. If I have spent a month or so wearing lots of red & green, I need a week or two of soothing ivories and oatmeals and rich, but quieter browns. But then, February rolls around and I am ready for color again, just to brighten things up a bit. You, too? It's common to see lots of neutrals and some really deep colors in our winter wardrobes, but that doesn't mean you can't add some pops of color here and there. But don't overwhelm yourself, unless you are lucky enough to be one of the bright seasons. And if you are, have at it! Two Ways to Add Life to Your Winter Capsule Color PaletteThe first thing to do is to go look at your closet capsule wardrobe & review the colors you chose. Are they all or mostly neutral? Would it help to add an additional color from your larger wardrobe? Choose one that feels good to you but will easily blend with the ones you have already. What may be more likely is that you included at least one favorite color, but you aren't wearing it right now. Find ways to add it back, in your tops, or your scarves and other accessories. My Winter Color PaletteThis year, I haven't been feeling any loss of color, because I never stopped wearing the color palette I chose for my own capsule wardrobe. I have terracottas, rusts, olive greens, creams, greys and rich browns.
But I have noticed a slight change in the pairings. I have been more likely to choose a soothing ivory or cream or a warming oatmeal to go with my burnt orange tops or my olive greens. And I have chosen lighter, more soothing versions of those warm, rich colors. But the color is still there. What have you been longing to add to the color palette for your winter wardrobe? Let me know in a comment. Wishing you a warm & bright winter, with any and all the hibernating rest you need before spring begins its return to us. See you next time! Love, Jeanine
