How to Create Your Spring Capsule Wardrobe

How to Create a Spring Capsule Wardrobe

Once spring has finally sprung, what will your capsule wardrobe look like?

If it’s a reflection of what you can find in stores and catalogs, it might have some versions of sage or olive, caramel, coral & the primary colors, yellow, red, and blue. With grey and navy as neutrals.

If you decide to stay on trend with your spring color capsule, just make sure to choose the versions of those colors that are on your color palette.

But if, instead, you decide to stay with the color capsule you have chosen already, then for spring, you just need cooler and possibly, lighter versions of the clothes you already have.

If you’re already wearing olive, you might try light olive. And if you’ve got a long-sleeved cowl neck and fleece-lined leggings, now you can add a short-sleeved top and a lighter pair of leggings to your collection.

Your ankle boots might be replaced by a pair of flats, and your heavy coat can move out of the closet, to make room for a windbreaker.

I recommend creating a warm weather capsule wardrobe with basics you can wear year after year, that mix and match beautifully with the items in your primary capsule wardrobe. And then, each year, you won’t need anything new for spring, but can buy a few pieces just for fun, if you want.

But if you are just starting from scratch, here are five steps to creating a great spring capsule wardrobe...

5 Steps to Create Your Spring Capsule Wardrobe

(1) Start by choosing a dark neutral color as your base color.

(2) Select several more solid neutrals to add to your capsule.

(3) Choose several items in your chosen accent colors.

(4) Choose a few items with stripes or patterns.

(5) The final step is to choose your shoes & your other accessories.

For the shoes, you can add a pair or two in the same base color, ... add a nude neutral pair of heels or flats, add a casual pair, like sneakers, add boots or sandals... For accessories, choose one or two handbags.  A black or beige handbag is always a great addition to your wardrobe because the colors go well with your outfits. Add a statement necklace or one or two scarves to complete your capsule. - Leanne at ClassyYetTrendy.com

You also can add earrings, rings, bracelets or other kinds of jewelry, creating a small jewelry capsule to go with your new capsule wardrobe.

Once you have chosen everything you want to use in this new capsule, and each one is in your closet or the jewelry box, you will have completed the most important part of this process.

What are you most looking forward to adding to your spring capsule wardrobe?

See you next time!

Love, Jeanine

I tend to wear dark colors year round, navy, black, burgundy shades. But when spring rolls around I do pull out the mint and pink outfits. As for footwear, it's sneakers or my rhinestone studded black flip flops. 🤗

I love it that you've got fancy flip flops, Martha! And you know, I tend to stick to a color palette, too. But as you've said, when spring comes, I start to want to wear lighter colors.

    Hi, I'm Jeanine Byers :)

I'm an author,  Christian image consultant, proud former homeschool boy mom of a college student, Hallmark movie fan and big cuppa tea drinker.

I believe that creating your signature style is a spiritual calling. It's about seeing yourself as God does and delighting in your own beauty and style.

I'm specializing in color analysis and signature style for black women.

As women of color, we often aren't analyzed correctly when we receive color analysis. And all of our lives, we have been given sometimes subtle, and sometimes more overt societal messages about not meeting the cultural standards of beauty.

My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.

    Love, Jeanine
