Happy Halloween, everyone!
Will you be taking your kids trick-or-treating today? Putting those last-minute touches on their costumes?
My son declared himself far too old to dress up several years ago, but I still remember those days fondly.
What about you? Do you dress up for Halloween? Let me know what your costume is this year, if you do.
I don't wear costumes anymore, but I do have fun wearing more casual outfits with orange, and sometimes, I even sneak in some black, though it isn't in my color palette.
Hope you and your family have a fun day!
Minimalism is an aesthetic that has simmered beneath the surface for decades, occasionally bubbling-up and making its presence felt, but never really disappearing entirely. From Coco Chanel's sporty separates and Calvin Klein's '90s greyscale to Phoebe Philo's austere, post-financial crash stylings at Celine, it's one of the few fashion movements that has transcended multiple generations.” - Joy Montgomery, WhoWhatWear.co.uk
What is Minimalist Style?
Are you a mom who prefers to wear casual, comfortable outfits? If so, you may enjoy today's minimalist style inspiration and ideas.
I am a natural style personality who found that minimalist style fits the way I have been dressing for a while now. Minimal style takes you back to the basics, and is intentionally curated, with simplicity in mind.
Approaching each season, we look to our six muses; the fashion pioneer, the warrior, the free spirit, the curator, the romantic and the purist. The Purist opts for minimalist style with a sleek, functional edge, and this season we noticed a new mood for clean, monochromatic elegance on the runway. This back-to-basics approach to wardrobing reinforces the pieces that matter—the clean, modern staple items that become the building blocks for the ultimate wardrobe. - Natalie Kingham, a buyer for MatchesFashion
How to Create a Minimalist Color Capsule
There are many ways to create a minimalist color capsule, or to choose colors for your minimalist capsule wardrobe. Rather than following a specific idea or formula for choosing them, it's important that the colors you choose be whatever is most right for you.
But I can give you some ideas that will get you started thinking about it...
Some style systems give you an entire color palette, with up to 60 different colors or more for creating your wardrobe, but an ideal color capsule would be a subset of this kind of palette.
With a minimalist color palette, the goal is to simplify the capsule wardrobe process by choosing only a minimal number of colors.
(1) You could choose a monochromatic capsule, by focusing on one neutral color, like black, grey, dark brown, ivory, or white, or one brighter color that you love.
(2) You could choose two colors that are really shades of one color - like a lighter grey with a darker grey, or light brown with darker browns. Or, you could choose two colors that are similar in value, like ivory and medium grey.
Generally, you wouldn't aim for sharp contrast, unless that is what looks best on you.
(3) In a minimalist look, using three colors in your capsule would likely mean they would all be neutrals, like ivory, tan and dark brown.
But the most important thing to keep in mind, for your minimalist color capsule, and for your minimalist wardrobe, in general, is ease.
Whatever looks good on you and makes it super easy to put outfits together is the best choice for you.
Wishing you a minimalist style and a capsule wardrobe you will love wearing!
Creating Your Fall Capsule Wardrobe
As temperatures begin to cool, time to put away the tank tops and shorts and fill your closet with things that will keep you warm.
For fall, you may find yourself wanting autumn colors and cozy fabrics. Just keep in mind only to choose colors that flatter your own coloring.
Slow Living style, which I advocate, means slow fashion consciousness- clothes that will last, environmentally friendly and made ethically.
And a slower fashion cycle with clothes can work in more than one season.
Try a capsule wardrobe. For a cozy 10-piece capsule wardrobe you can use in both fall and winter, add the following to your closet...
1 pullover sweater
1 LS top, pullover
1 LS top, button-down
3 pairs of pants or leggings
1 dress or jumper
1 long skirt
Once you've chosen your 10 pieces, the best way to try them out quickly is to do the 10x10 challenge. I confess that I am not sure who created it. I first found out about it on Pinterest.
But from what I understand, it's a 10-day challenge. You create 10 outfits using those 10 pieces, for ten days. Try it and see if those ten pieces will work for your capsule wardrobe.
Have fun with it!
I want to encourage you & help you uncover which colors make you shine the brightest.
And then, help you create the capsule wardrobe that will empower you to do just that.
