This post is the first of two, for today.
The second one will post at noon, and will give you a bird's eye view of the color analysis experience when I work with my clients. You'll hear from a couple of them, too, in that post.
But this post has a different topic. In a poll of 6000 women, when asked what their biggest challenge was, the majority said, putting outfits together. And during the recent five-day fall style challenge, they continued to say it.
They wanted an easier way to create outfits that would make them look well put together, And at the end of the challenge, getting dressed became simple and easy.
Six new capsule wardrobe guides were released, one for each of the color types. And since I have been working with one of them, I decided to share what my experience has been like, so far, in using it to create my own fall capsule wardrobe and plan outfits with what I have in my capsule.
The Warm Capsule Wardrobe Guide for Fall
The color palette for the Warm fall style guide is navy, olive, pumpkin and ivory/oatmeal.
What I love about that color palette is that I have every one of those colors in my wardrobe, already except for navy. So I knew that this style guide would be perfect for me, and I really loved every minute of working on my fall style plan.
Fall Style 2020 Capsule Wardrobe Guide: Closet Inventory
Each capsule guide comes with 27 clothing items selected for your color type. So the goal of creating your capsule wardrobe is to have about 27 hangers, as Shari Braendel likes to say.
And after an introduction, you see the recommended pieces for your wardrobe.
I decided not to worry about navy, for now, although this season's navy is beautiful, and I have been thinking that if I ever add another neutral color, it would be navy.
But I did look at the pieces in the other colors, and to be honest, there were some I didn't like.
For example, there were graphic tees with faith messages on them. I think that's a lovely idea if you like that sort of thing, but I don't like graphic tees.
And I am picky about dresses. I hardly ever buy them, but when I do, it's usually for a specific reason - right now, I have two striped dresses, and the stripes were my only reason for choosing them, besides the summer heat.
So, when you buy a guide like this one, you may find yourself choosing other pieces than the ones suggested. If it says, olive jacket, and shows a moto jacket, but you'd prefer a cardigan, that's totally fine.
In fact, the hope is that you already have your own versions of some of the items in your closet.
And when I did my closet inventory, I found out that I had 20 items already.
Not the exact same items - and I have far more dusters and far fewer tops and bottoms - but I am happy with what I have for now, and am still inspired by some of the outfit ideas.
By the way, I have added a few more pieces since I did the closet inventory, and I now have 23 pieces, which I think is more than enough.
Fall Style 2020 Capsule Wardrobe Guide: Outfit Ideas
At first, I felt discouraged when I saw how many outfits had a combination of navy and another color, when I don't plan to add any navy. But then I looked at the actual types of pieces and styles and realized I could still be inspired by those.
And then I remembered the chart with the 150 outfit combinations! I got some great ideas from the chart.
(1) A monochromatic outfit but with shades of olive - that was a merger of two outfit ideas with the clothes I have in y closet.
(2) Several outfit ideas using my pumpkin duster, leggings and a top. I don't wear jeans, but all of the jeans outfit ideas would work for me if I substituted leggings.
(3) Two different duster + dress outfits that I can't wait to try! They were my favorites, and they were both inspired by one of the many outfit ideas in the guide.
(4) There were other suggestions where I saw one kind of topper, or a pair of pants, and wouldn't use those exact ones, but immediately saw how one that I have could fit right into the picture.
(5) I also felt validated by some of the outfit ideas I am already doing. But I was really pleased to think of so many new ones.
Fall Style 2020 Capsule Wardrobe Guide: Wish List
I really think I feel complete with my fall capsule wardrobe.
But if I were going to add a few more pieces, I think I would look for a pair of pumpkin leggings or joggers.
And while I was looking around online, I found a striped navy duster. That would probably be fun!
Plus, I found a sale in one of my favorite stores that would make it easy to add a pair of navy leggings now, and that duster down the road.
Navy would go so well with all the olive green I have, don't you think?
But I am excited to have so many great outfit ideas already, so I may wait and just focus on what I have, for now.
I have to say that that was the best part of my experience with the capsule guide - I was able to use so many things that I already have!
Over to you! What have your experiences been like with creating capsule wardrobes?
And what would it be like to know that the clothes you had hanging in your closet would not let you down? That you could have total confidence in the outfits you put together?
If you want to experience that, I can make it happen.
See you tomorrow!
At the beginning of the five-day fall fashion challenge, each participant was asked to raise their hand and solemnly swear - okay, not really, but promise - that they would not buy anything until the challenge was over. No matter how inspired you feel, don't jump the gun!
And even though I am one of the image consultants in the group, I decided to do the challenge, too, for fun. So mentally, I made the same promise. And then, this happened...
Dreaming of Olive
So, olive is the suggested fall trend color for y color type to focus on, and I already have olive in my fall capsule wardrobe. Several times over.
But I don't have an olive duster. So as I went through my current wardrobe, and the color palette I have in mind for fall, I realized that I wouldn't need to buy much. Maybe an olive cardigan, and an ivory top with thicker fabric than the one I have for summer.
And having decided that, I got a little itchy. I knew I could wait.
But I also knew I would be going to Wal-Mart to shop for groceries.
And it wouldn't hurt just to have a peek at what they have t offer, right? On the other hand, let me be honest! Their inventory turns over faster than I ever expect.
I have gone back more than once, only to find that the top/cardi/whatever was gone. So the truth is, I knew that if I found it and it fit, I would probably buy it.
And sure enough, they did have an olive jacket. But it was not a duster; it was a zip-up hoodie. Still, I decided to try it on. And I picked one more item I thought might work.
But Here's What I Bought, Instead
Y'all, I wandered all over the store, trying to find a mirror! The dressing rooms were off limits, but I wasn't going to just buy it and hope for the best.
So I tried to remember where else they had mirrors. The shoe department? Nope, that one was gone.
Finally, I found one - guess where - on the mirror aisle! I'll know where to look first, next time, right?
The verdict - the hoodie jacket was too boxy/bulky, and I just didn't like it. But the other thing I chose was a straight up winner! I felt like it fit me as if it was made for me.
And so, it came home with me!
What was it? And animal print cardigan duster. Love it!
And, as you can see, it will go with all of my other fall color palette colors: olive, burnt orange, dark brown and ivory.
But I did break my promise. Want to know why? Unlike the other participants, I know what's coming.
And I know it will fit right in with what comes at the end of the challenge.
Still not too late to join!
See you tomorrow!
Five-Day Fall Fashion Challenge: Today's Topic - Makeup
Makeup was the today's topic. Shari Braendel, from Fashion Meets Faith, talked about how to organize what's in your makeup drawer.
She also shared the 8 makeup items everyone should use, and which of those are absolutely mission critical. She gave makeup application tips and then, offered color suggestions based on your dominant color type.
Finally, the homework was to clear out old or unused makeup and make a list of what you need right now.
Five-Day Fall Fashion Challenge: Tomorrow it's in the Jeans
And in the genes, presumably!
Because tomorrow's video lesson and challenge will be about finding the right pair of jeans for your body shape. She will review some of the common body challenges and how that can make it difficult to find jeans that fit, and then give you guidelines for fining your best pair.
Don't miss it if you've been on the quest for the perfect pair!
Here's how to join.
See you tomorrow!
My mission is to help you discover, embrace and celebrate your own beauty and style.
Thanks for dropping by! I'll see you soon.
